Women Farmers: Pillars of Food Sovereignty
Training sessions for members of FARM continue. Following last week’s training on land rights, the members have now received training on food sovereignty. This latest training was conducted across several districts in the Analamanga region.
What is food sovereignty?
Food sovereignty means having the power and freedom to produce, distribute, and consume food in ways that respect local culture and meet local nutritional needs. It implies independence from imported food and the ability to sustain oneself and one’s community.
Did you know?
70% of rural women in Madagascar work in agriculture. However, many of them still lack access to training and basic resources. Training programs help them to:
Practice sustainable farming
Manage their produce and income
Understand their rights and participate in decision-making
When rural women are empowered, food sovereignty becomes a reality.
